Greeters: Share Your Ideas
As a relatively new member of LABC, I can testify to the welcoming nature of our church. In addition to the official greeters at our doors and at the Welcome Café, we simply are a friendly community that nurtures long-standing friendships and welcomes visitors. It’s tempting to take for granted what we have, but to nurture new greeters and build on what we know to be a welcoming and special place of worship, I invite you to share tips and stories to be part of a new LABC Hospitality Resource to enhance this ministry. To facilitate this sharing, please consider the following questions based on your reading and experiences at LABC:
• What tips for greeters can you share?
• Do you have a greeting story you can share?
• What new greeting recommendations do you wish to see considered?
Please reply by January 24 to Paul Elwyn (contact information available in the church office).

--Arrive at the café by 9 a.m. on your Sunday for a quick setup
--Be ready by 9:10 a.m. to greet those who drop by for conversation and coffee
--Bring a snack to share (optional)
--Close the café by 9:40 a.m.

The Story: Find Your Place in the Greatest Story Ever Told
Join us Sundays at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.
For the whole family
Sunday School groups for all ages (preschool, children, youth, and adults) will study The Story at 9:30 a.m. in Sunday School. Worship will follow the same themes each week including sermons, music, and multi-media. We often study key passages of the Bible. The Story will help us place the stories of the Bible within the context of the larger story of the whole Bible. Adults will receive the thirty-one chapter book, The Story, which is selected passages from the Bible designed to give us an overview of the whole Bible story.
Adults and Youth
Adults will use The Story, selected passages from the Bible, organized into 31 chapters from Genesis to Revelation. Youth will receive the teen version of The Story and view some very creative video retellings of the story each week in Sunday School and Wednesday nights.
Preschool and Children
Preschoolers and Children will receive beautifully illustrated books which cover the same biblical story as adults. Planet 56 will use the older children’s version. The whole family can learn The Story together.
The Story Planning Team
If you have any questions talk to any member of The Story planning team: Rhonda Caldwell, Amanda England, Tara Luster, Joe Gibson, Adam Nash, Amber Nash, Phil Quinn, Blythe Sheene, Todd Sheene, Keith Stillwell, or Tommy Valentine.

A Word from our Children’s Minister
Hi everyone! I’m excited to be starting the new year with you here at Lexington Avenue. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you over the next few months as we learn to serve God together. Here’s a little of my story: I grew up in Crestwood, Kentucky, and I went to Murray State University. Right now, I live in Georgetown, where I am about to begin my last semester as a student at the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. I share my house with my husband, Adam, and our dog, Gavin, who loves to play with his Angry Bird toy. I like yellow, spaghetti, chai tea, cookie dough ice cream, and all kinds of crafts. I can’t wait to hang out with you and learn some of your story soon!
Youth Group in January
The Story Continues
In January Lexington Avenue Baptist Church will begin a trip through many of the stories of the Bible. The youth group will be going through The Story in both Sunday School and on Wednesday’s Deep End Bible Study. We are hoping that with all LABC using The Story this will encourage Bible discussion outside of the church, especially within families.

LABC Tea: “A Cup of Hospitality”
We have our own Elmwood Inn tea label, “A Cup of Hospitality.” The tea will be given to our guests and available for sale to members. The cost is $10 for a container of 15 tea sachets ($10.50 in most stores) or three for $25, available in the church office. For each container sold, $4.00 goes to our Glocal Missions Offering. The label reads: Since our founding in 1927, Lexington Avenue Baptist Church has sought to blend the core values of heritage, worship, music, prayer, spiritual growth, friendliness, caring and missions to give our congregation a unique flavor. In many cultures, tea has been a symbol of friendship, peace and community for centuries. With that ancient tradition of hospitality in mind, we offer this caffeine-free tea, blended with delicious aromatic herbs known for soothing both body and spirit. We invite you to become a part of the hospitable spirit of our Christ-centered community. O taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. Psalm 34:8 (NRSV).
Friends of Glocal Ministries/Missions Emails

As I receive emails of interest, I will forward them to you. Also, Katie Roberts, and Sharon Price have their own email lists. If you are interested in any of these, I can help you get connected. --Keith

Box Tops for Education: Labels for Oneida
Just a reminder that the Ruth Sunday School Class still collects soup labels and box tops for education labels. As you prepare for your holiday meals, please clip these and bring to our class room. Our goal this year has been 1,000 labels to send to Oneida Baptist Institute, Oneida Ky. So far, we have mailed over 600 labels (that doesn’t count points). A quote from OBI reads: “send us the entire label. Look for Labels for Education tm not only on Campbell’s foods, but also on products such as Vlasic, Franco-American, Prego, Swanson, Pace, and Pepperidge Farm. These labels earn points for us that we can redeem to get free educational equipment. Tyson’s Project A+ tm--send entire labels from specially marked Tyson chicken products. Worth 24 cents each, they return to us as a cash reward. General Mills’ Box tops for Education tm-- Send specially marked box tops. Each is worth 10 cents, and this program also turns points into cash.” This is an easy way for us to help out a wonderful institution carrying the name of Christ to a terrific group of young people as they educate and minister in their lives..--Paula Scott and the Ruth Class
