Soups On Us: Saturday, August 6
"Soup's on Us" is a weekend food ministry sponsored by Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, The Presbyterian Church of Danville, and First Christian Church, Danville. On Saturday, August 6, Lexington Avenue Baptist will be taking part for the first time, providing meals for 300 plus Danville residents, including making boxes, preparing meals, packing boxes, and delivering meals. There's a job for everyone.
Volunteer Schedule (Saturday, August 6):
8:00 a.m. - Assemble boxes
9:00 a.m. - Prepare sandwiches
10:00 - Fill food boxes
11:00 - Deliveries & Clean-up
Here's How You Can Help:
1. Volunteer for one of the responsibilities on the schedule listed above (assemble boxes, prepare sandwiches, fill boxes, deliver meals, clean-up)
2. Donate rectangular laundry baskets (for delivering boxes)
3. Loan 18 quart electric turkey roasters (for soup; we have five donated, but need three more)
4. We need someone to coordinate deliveries to LABC homebound members and to members recuperating from illness.
We look forward to your help with this much needed ministry. Please call with any questions, Stephanie Griffin, Doris Cessna, or Kathy White (phone numbers available through the church office).
Kay Floyd Memorial Project: Collection Sunday, August 14
Church members are asked to donate typical school supplies for the Kay Floyd Memorial Project: pencils, markers, scissors, construction paper, backpacks, etc. A collection box has been placed in the hallway next to the church office. Of course, if you prefer, you may make a monetary donation in lieu of purchasing items. Donations for this project will be collected at the doors of the sanctuary at the conclusion of the worship service on August 14. Please be sure to designate “Kay Floyd Memorial Project” on any donations that are mailed to the church. This drive will conclude on August 15.
About Kay Floyd and the Memorial Project: Kay Floyd was a local educator and a faithful member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She passed away in 2006 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. In her memory, LABC is again sponsoring this mission project to honor Kay and her legacy as a devoted educator and an advocate for children. The Kay Floyd Memorial Project will supply the local chapter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Families First and the LABC Preschool with needed supplies. (These organizations service both Danville and Boyle County students.)
