LABC News & Notes, July 7

Ministry Commitment Sunday, July 10
We would like for all of our members to complete a Ministry Survey, by Sunday, July 10, which is Ministry Commitment Sunday. Your ministry survey will help the Nominating Committee understand your gifts and areas of services.
The Survey will be made available in several ways:
1. Online at www.lexingtonavenue.org/ministry-survey/
2. Inside the July edition of the Key in print
3. Sunday School, July 3.
4. Bulletin insert, July 10.
Every Christian is called and gifted by God for ministry. Serving God is fulfilling and enjoyable because the very things we enjoy doing and are able to do are usually the spiritual gifts God calls us to use in ministry. What is your ministry—Leadership? Serving? Teaching? Your Career?

Soups On Us: Saturday, August 6
"Soup's on Us" is a weekend food ministry sponsored by Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, The Presbyterian Church of Danville, and First Christian Church, Danville. On Saturday, August 6, Lexington Avenue Baptist will be taking part for the first time, providing meals for 300 plus Danville residents, including making boxes, preparing meals, packing boxes, and delivering meals. There's a job for everyone.
Volunteer Schedule (Saturday, August 6):

8:00 a.m. - Assemble boxes
9:00 a.m. - Prepare sandwiches
10:00 - Fill food boxes
11:00 - Deliveries & Clean-up
Here's How You Can Help:

1. Volunteer for one of the responsibilities on the schedule listed above (assemble boxes, prepare sandwiches, fill b
oxes, deliver meals, clean-up)
2. Donate rectangular laundry baskets (for delivering boxes)
3. Loan 18 quart electric turkey roasters (for soup; we have five donated, but need three more)
4. We need someone to coordinate deliveries to LABC homebound members and to members recuperating from illness.
Sign-up sheets will be available in the Sunday School boxes during the month of July and in worship on July 17. We look forward to your help with this much needed ministry. Please call with any questions, Stephanie Griffin, Doris Cessna, or Kathy White (phone numbers available through the church office).

Vacation Bible School

Thank you for attending this year’s VBS. I loved being a chef with each and every one of you and being part of Gods wonderful recipe. I hope you had a great time making crafts, learning new songs, being part of the Bible stories, playing in recreation, listening to scraps the puppet, and much more. Be sure to give your leaders and Shawna Stomberger a big hug and thank them for an outstanding job they did for all of us at Vacation Bible School, and remember to... Be ready for God. Give happily to God. Believe fully in Jesus. Remember Jesus often. Celebrate God forever.

Upward Soccer
Upward Sports seeks to provide children with "skills for the sports arena and values for life." While training children with the athletic skills needed to participate at the next level, Upward Sports stresses biblical values—such as leadership, teamwork, integrity and respect—as much as winning. Upward is provided for K-6th grade children. LABC’S children’s ministry is considering having an Upward Soccer team. However, to be able to provide this for our children we will need many volunteers, beginning with a coach. If you are interested please contact Tara or Keith and we can get the ball rolling!!!
Extended Session workers needed!!
We have some gaps in our schedule that need to be filled. Please consider being part of our rotation to help with the children ages 3 -5, or if you are already on rotation and can pick up an extra week please let Gail or Tara know.

Homes Needed for Youth Bible Study
On SUNDAYS in July, 6-8 p.m. (but we usually run over)- July 10, 17, 24
Similar to last summer, we are meeting in church member's homes to eat, have Bible study and play. This summer our curriculum is "The Way I'm Wired".  Our goal is to get to know people in our church better and hear their stories. We need people willing to have the youth over for dinner and be able to sit in our Bible story and share their personal experiences on the topic. The topics for July are: Knowing your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats; Praying for Courage, Perseverance and Miracles; Writing Your Lifetime Dream Statement; and Surrendering All to Jesus. If any of these topics stand out to you, or you would like more details on them, please give Kelsey a call. We would love for our youth to learn from you and to know that there are mentors in our church that they can always go to.
