Between The Protestant Church of Morocco in Rabat
and Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville
Our friends in Rabat have proposed a week of friendship between our congregations. Leaders from both churches have shared ideas and we have met with Karen Thomas Smith (Karen is a pastor in Rabat and coordinator of the partnership who is living in Danville for the semester with her husband, Kevin and daughter, Claire).
Daily Ministry & Prayer Focus
Each day we will post on our web page a ministry and prayer focus video clip focusing on a ministry group in our church and one from the church in Rabat.
LABC members who sign up will be paired with members of the church in Rabat to be friends for the week (sort of like pen pals). Prayer partners will correspond by email or facebook, sharing prayer requests and getting to know each other.
Home Prayer, Tuesday, May 10, 8:00 p.m. (and 2:00 p.m.)
On Tuesday, we are asking LABC members to pause at 8:00 p.m. for a time of prayer in your own homes and at 2:00 p.m. wherever you are (which is about the time Rabat church members will gather in homes for prayer and Bible study). Karen Thomas Smith has provided us with list of prayer requests (available in the church office). We hope that our members and our friends in Rabat will be encouraged knowing that many LABC members are praying at the same time.
Prayer Meeting, Wednesday, May 11
Fellowship Supper: In addition to our regular chicken and fixings for supper we will also have a taste of Morocco including some Moroccan mint tea served in our tea service given to us by our friends in Rabat. Karen has some recipes if anyone would like to help.
Prayer Meeting and Bible Study: Karen Thomas Smith will lead our Bible study and we will divide into small groups for dialogue and prayer.
Day of Prayer and Fasting, Friday, May 13
We will observe a day of fasting and prayer from sunup to sundown with our friends in Rabat (Fast only if your health permits. Consult your doctor.).
Day of Service, Saturday, May 14, 9-11 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul
"Soup's On Us" at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church (117 West Main Street), 9:00-11:00 a.m. LABC members are asked to help with the local “Soup’s On Us” ministry while our friends in Rabat participate in a similar feeding ministry with African migrants in Rabat.
Common Service, Sunday, May 15
Karen Thomas Smith will be our guest preacher. Both churches will use an order of worship with similar songs and scripture readings and exchange greetings and special music by way of video.
