Lexington Avenue Baptist Church

I am ending this note to thank you all for the calls, cards, visits, flowers, food, gifts, and especially all your thoughts and prayers. Reading all my cards kept me busy. The phone calls kept me in touch. The visits made me smile and laugh. The flowers perked up my room. Your kindness was deeply appreciated. I am so thankful for such a loving Church Family. Again, THANK YOU for keeping me occupied during my 'down time.' I LOVE YOU ALL.

With a grateful heart,

Maria Rice

The Advent Devotional Books which the congregation received November 28 was not the work of one person. There are many who made it possible. First and foremost are the 29 writers who took the time to compose and submit a devotional. Thanks are due also to Malinda Smith for proof-reading and editing the final copy; to  David and Eliazbeth Bibb, Barbara Hill, and Cari Rice for assembling the books. This took the greater part of two days; and most importantly to Gail singleton for finalizing the assemblage which is no easy task. Getting the pages in the proper order and making 500 copies takes a great deal of expertise and Gail has it!

It is the hope of all these that our church members will read, enjoy, and appreciate the 2010 Advent Devotional Book. Merry Christmas!

To My LABC Family,

Thank you for a most wonderful 10th Anniversary Celebration. I could not have asked for a better day. I was surprised and honored by your thoughtful selection of special guests, John Lepper, Josh Speight, Jason and Sarah Kilby and family, and by way of video, our friends from Morocco, Karen Thomas Smith, Helge, and Christiano. Thanks for inviting my family.

Since I first heard Phil sing, 'Give Me Jesus,' it has become one of my favorite songs and I did ask Phil to sing it at my funeral. In spite of the 'Ten Things to Love About Keith' from Tommy and Phil, I love the people I work with. It is a joy to come to work everyday and work with great people like Tommy Valentine, Phil Quinn, Tara Farmer, Gail Singleton, Cari Rice, Linda Lonigro, Pat Stewart, Evelyn Crooke, Kyle Bottoms, Justin Johnson, and Kelsey Stillwell who work hard, laugh, and love God and this church. Tommy has helped assemble a good team and created a work environment that brings out the best in us.

Thanks to my family, Dianne, Brittany, and Kelsey for their participation in the day. I was proud to hear Brittany and Kelsey sing. I couldn't do much without my family and, as many of you reminded me Sunday, I am lucky to have them.

You, as a congregation, have created an atmosphere that makes me want to do my best. Your many kind words and the generous love offering were more than I deserve. I am privleged to serve at a church with generous, caring, and dedicated people like you. Thank you for calling me and allowing me to be your associate pastor for discipleship. It has been an enjoyable ten years.

Thanks again for the generous love offering. I am giving half of it to the ministry of this church and to our missions offering. I can think of nothing I could spend it on that would make me happier than to see the money go to work through the ministries of LABC, and through our missions offerings, feeding the hungry, providing medicine,  and building homes in Danville, ministering to the poor in Eastern Kentucky, helping African refugees in Morocco survive, supporting missionaries all over the world, and so much more. Thank you for giving.

With Gratitude. Agape,
Keith

Dear Lexington Avenue Baptist Congregation,

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Wilderness Trace Child Development Center. Support from the community is vital to the success of our center--each child will benefit directly from your donation!

Thank you!

Dear Church family,

Pauline and I want to thank you for the love and concern that was shown to us through the prayers, cards, calls, visits, food, and flowers during my recovery from the surgery.

A simple thank you seems very inadequate, however, thank you again for your TLC.

Ken & Pauline Wall

Thank you for the good dinner on Sunday. It really felt like we were having a celebration of Thanksgiving. We all have a reason to be thankful but we sometimes forget to say 'thank you'.  I am thankful for a good dinner and fellowship. Thank you for your gift to us.

Thank you so much for your support of the Shrine Hospital. Happy Holidays to all.

Thank you for all the prayers, cards, phone calls and visits while I was in the hospital, Cardinal Hill, and now recovering at home. Hazel and I are very thankful for our church family at LABC. Hope I can be back in church soon.

Dear Friends,

Our students are now a few weeks into the fall semester. The campus is once again filled with busy activities of a new school year.

Things are now beginning to move at a hectic pace for everyone on campus. Please pray for students, faculty, and staff as we try our best to budget our time this semester.

During September we have our annual campus revival. The preacher this year is Dr. Rick Coram, founder and President fo Rick Coram Ministries. Pray for renewal and a deeper commitment to evangelism and mission.

Thank you for helping us with your prayers and your giving.

Thanks for all you do,

Donnie Fox
(President, Clear Creek Baptist Bible College)

Dear Friends,

Your gift of $50.00 on July 28, 2010 has been greatly appreciated.
arch on.

It has been over 3 years since Mom's passing and I feel I can say there has been no moss to gather on us from idleness or lack of work to do for the Lord.

All areas of this ministry continue at that same brisk pace. We could not keep up if it were not for all our faithful supporters. You are the ones who supply the funds and we are the hands and feet that put it all into action. What a perfect combination! With your support we are making a difference in this world for the Lord.

The year 2010 moves along at a brisk pace. As they say, time really does m

Always grateful,

Dear LABC Family and Friends,

Sunday morning took me by surprise when I was recognized for my service and contribution to the Nursery and Preschool at Lexington Avenue, Looking back over the years it has been rewarding to see our young people grow from the cradle to adults and yes parents. A special 'thank you' to those who have served and continue to serve during Sunday School and Sunday Morning Worship Service.

Jesus Loves the little children and he will always love us no matter what age.

With love,
Linda Sparrow

Dear Tommy

I want to thank you and your church for your continued partnership which helps us equip and empower Kentucky Baptist churches and Christians, cultivate partnerships, and engage in missions.

Your partnership with us during the Voices United Choir: Kentucky/Morocco Music Exchange is greatly appreciated. Thank you for allowing KBF to use your van during our tour along with Keith Stillwell, who was our faithful roadie throughout the tour.

We look forward to future partnerships with you and other Kentucky Baptist Fellowship churches and individuals.

Grace and peace,
Joshua M. Speight
Associate Coordinator for Missions

Dear Keith

I want to thank you and your church for your continued partnership which helps us equip and empower Kentucky Baptist churches and Christians, cultivate partnerships, and engage in missions.

Your partnership with us during the Voices United Choir: Kentucky/Morocco Music Exchange is greatly appreciated. Lexington Avenue's gift of food, host homes and financial contributions helped the choir enjoy their time in Kentucky. During the concert at your church, we collected an offering for refugee relief in Morocco. To date, we collected $1,006.00 from Lexington Avenue, which helped KBF raise a grand total of $7651.25. Thank you for your generous contribution!

We look forward to future partnerships with you and other Kentucky Baptist Fellowship churches and individuals.

Grace and peace,
Joshua M. Speight
Associate Coordinator for Missions

August 2010

I want to express my sincere gratitude for the outreach and kindness you gave to our family at a very difficult time. Opening the church to us after the funeral made it just a little easier to share our loss, our hopes, our love and above all our faith, with friends and family. Please convey our deepest appreciation to all those who helped us through and accept this donation in memory of Natalie Grace Caldwell, July 9, 2010-July 19, 2010.

LABC VBS Report 2010
by Linda Kurtz, Director

Our VBS was a great success! We doubled the number of children attending from last year, many of them from neighborhoods nearby who had never visited LABC before.

Everyone enjoyed meeting in the beautifully decorated space-themed fellowship hall before participating in the various centers for crafts, science, missions, music, Bible story dramas, recreation and of course, snacks.

Tara Farmer is a magician whose creative imagination resulted in dramatic backgrounds and props and Keith, of course, was our guiding star.

A big Thank you to the many generous people listed below who gave so freely of their time and talent to help us pull it all together.

Dawn deserves special recognition for heading up the VBS craft centers for almost two decades! Others who have graciously given of their time this year to make our VBS such a success are:

Dear Lexington Avenue Church members,

Thank you for the card you sent to me when I was hurt. It meant so much to me that you all are thinking and praying for me. I have recovered from my head injury. Stacy and I wanted to take a moment to thank our friends at Lexington Avenue for the love, support and encouragement shown to us as we transitioned to Bowling Green.  Our last Sunday at LABC was very special.  We appreciate all of the thought and effort that went into planning the service.  While I quickly tired of hearing about me, it was fun to reflect on many of the memories made during my stints at Lexington Avenue.

Thank you for the fingerprint artwork.  It is way cool and will remind us of our many friends at LABC.  We also enjoyed hanging out with the youth at breakfast and the reception that afternoon.  Thanks to all who came out to bid us farewell.  We appreciate all of the cards, letters and kind words you have given us.

LABC is a piece of who we are and will always have a special place in our hearts.  We miss you guys and think of you often.

Be The Best!

We have enjoyed three days of Vacation Bible School with over 70 children, so far. Wow! That is our highest attendance in years. All of our workers have done an excellent job with Bible stories, crafts and science, recreation, snacks, mission stories, music and assembly, with children from age 2 through grade 6. The children have had lots of fun, but most importantly they are learning from the Bible and from the examples of our leaders that they are God's special creation. We are thankful for so many people who have shared their time, talents, and experience to provide all of the interesting decorations, to guide, teach, lead, and love children, and to perform all of the many tasks it takes to conduct a successful Bible School. Special thanks to Linda Kurtz and Tara Farmer who coordinated and helped pull it all together. Be sure to read Linda's excellent poem, God's Wonderful Universe (below). This poem really summarizes what VBS has been about.

You all are wonderful and appreciated.

Agape, Keith

God's Wonderful Universe
A Bible School Poem by our Director, Linda Kurtz

The wide universe
as we know it today
was made by our God
in  just seven short days.

Bright stars and round planets
and comets and moons
the bright sun to warm us
especially in June.

Mountains and rivers
with water so blue
sweet flowers to smell
and green trees for their "cool".

Deer, wolves, and birds
and 'fishies' galore
plus the sweet dogs and cats
which we all so adore.

All of earths bounty
spread far and wide
providing the good food
that keeps us alive.

So many sweet gifts
God's hands quickly made
and when all was completed
he sat down in the shade.

"I need a creation
to care for my earth
to tend it and love it
and make it all work."

God rose from the ground
and dug deep in the soil
he shaped and designed
'til he finished his toil.

Then he smiled a big smile
"Well my work is complete
I've created a being
with head, hands, and feet."

"I've created so much
that my head starts to spin
the planets, the stars,
and the strong blowing wind."

"Tall trees and green grasses
fat cows that go 'moo'
but my greatest creation
is wonderful YOU!"

Dear Friends of LABC,

We would like to thank you for all you did to encourage and remember our Mother, Beck Sims, during the last few years. We would look at the Wednesday night card to see who was there, then have a fun conversation about wonderful memories of the church. No friends could have been more constant and caring as the Joy and Ruth Sunday School classes. You were true Christian Friends. We also appreciate your help and hospitality during the time of Celebration for Mother's Funeral. Our family has so many memories associated with LABC—it couldn't be avoided since the church was such a close neighbor.

Thanks too for being a good neighbor.

Continued Blessings,
Cecilia and Richard Broadwater, Becky and Ron Bibb, and Buzz Sims

Dear Church Family,

Once again on behalf of the Gideons International and the Danville Gideons Camp, I would like to express appreciation for your continued support of the Gideon ministry. As was previously reported, $1,176 was received on April 18th when Sonny Fentress made the annual Gideon Report. Since that time, an additional $2,385 has been received bringing the total to $3,561. Our fiscal year runs from June 1-May 31. We received $550 early in this fiscal year after our annual Gideon Report in April 2009. That brings the total Gideon love offering for this fiscal year from our Church Service offering to $4,111. Praise the Lord and thank the people who have responded and have supported this mission in such an outstanding way in these tough economic times. Thanks for your prayers as well. I am truly humbled by all of it. This offering makes it possible for over 822 Bibles or 3,045 New Testaments to be placed out there in the world where they are so desperately needed. Praise God for those who come to know the Lord Jesus as Savior as a result!

Thanks for using the Gideon Expression Cards all year as well. Since much of that is mailed in by individuals, we have no way of tracking the amount of this offering. I know that amount would be great as well.
Thanks again for your support - monetarily, prayers and in words of encouragement.

Sincerely in Christian love,
Bernard Montgomery

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your generous gift. Because of your commitment to helping others, and because of your kindness, a family once struggling with hunger and despair has new hope. Your support provides the foundation for a better future for those in need through sustainable practices and educational measures that will last a lifetime.

As daffoldils and dogwoods bloom this spring, families in faraway villages in Rwanda, Romania and Ecuador look forward to a better tomorrow rather than back at a life of helplessness and hopelessness, because fo your generosity. Best of all, through Pass on the Gift, your generosity will continue to bloom in generations yet to come.

Thank you for partnering with Heiger International to help make a better world - one family and one community at a time.

Sincerely,

Charles O. Stewart
Interim Chief Executive Officer

December, 2009

My Fellow Christians in Christ!

I want to thank you for all of the thoughts, kind words and prayers that you have sent my way. I know that George and Peggy White asked you to pray for me and I greatly appreciate everyone's help.

I am in a pre-transplant program at the University of Michigan. During a routine heart check up, they found three blockages requiring three stints. If it weren't for this program, the problem would never have been found until it was too late. Just another example of Christ's intervention.

Again, thank you for all the prayer coming north from the south.

God Bless You All and A Merry Christmas to All,

Bruce Ridley

December, 2009

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your generous contributions to our Christmas Campaign. Christmas is a particularly stressful time of the year for us; especially this year with the prices of food and utilities rising and household income decreasing.

We realize also that it is sometimes forgotten that we still have local programs and individuals in need. That is what makes your donation so very special and appreciated.

Through the years, The Salvation Army has been blessed with people who have understood and maintained consistent support to the mission and ministry of serving others. You are among those who upheld us by your continuing, caring donations.

The Salvation Army could not survive without our Godsends, and we count ourselves lucky to be able to have you as one.

We appreciate your continued support of the work of the Salvation Army.

May God bless and keep you.

Sincerely,

Lt. Daniel A. Nelson
Corps Officer

The family of Bill Rankin would like to thank everyone for the many cards, calls and prayers. The Gideon Bibles donated by the church were also greatly appreciated.

We want to thank the Ruth Sunday School Class for the food.

Dear Lexington Avenue Baptist,

We are very grateful for your gift in this season of giving. We thank you for choosing to support Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. Your contributions make a difference in the Kingdom of God as our students minister in various ways: preaching about the Word who became flesh, planning and leading worship during Advent, helping to form our children and youth spiritually during a mostly secular holiday, singing Christmas carols at nursing homes, serving the needs of the marginalized with bags of food, hugs and words of hope.

At all times, but especially in tough economic times, you need to know that the funds we receive are managed carefully and prudently. We are operating the Seminary on an annual (2009-2010) budget of $800,000!! Imagine all we do for students in forming them spiritually, teaching the content of our faith, encouraging good habits, and practicing ministry skills. All of this and much more is provided by five full-time professors, a few part-time adjunct faculty and four administrative personnel. We do a great deal with a comparatively small amount of funds. And the results are excellent.

But we do our work only with your gracious support. No matter how large or how small the gift, it really does make possible our mission of preparing ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ whose birth we celebrate this season. Thank you and may you have a wonder-filled Christmas.

Peace,

Greg C. Earwood
President
Baptist Seminary of Kentucky
Lexington, Kentucky

You really have made my 20th anniversary special and the 20 years with you has been special to me. You are tops in my book.

Thank you! What a wonderful surprise to have Thanksgiving dinner delivered to our door! We are new in Danville and don't have family here. We felt so welcome in the community by your kindness.

Judith & Dennis Bayless

A special thank you for all the food that was donated from LABC to help make our Community Thanksgiving Feast the most successful so far. We fed about 300 people with most of them being carry-outs.

Thanks to families from Indian Hills Christian church that delivered most of the carry-out meals and for helping us to extend the love of Christ through out the Danville area.

Thanks to Calvary and LABC volunteers who worked Wednesday and Thursday getting ready for our special dinner. It was a great day, and we are looking forward to next year.

God Bless,
Doris Cessna

LABC Family,

Even in the darkest moment of our sadness, your support overwhelms us. We will never forget your generosity, your compassionate words and hugs, and most importantly--your prayers. Christ's love flows through the LABC congregation. We are honored and humbled to be members of such an amazing place of worship.

May God return to you the kindness you have shown us.
Thank you.

May God's blessings shower upon you and yours,
David, Ranea, Will, and Hagan

Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over.

Dear LABC Members,

Only a church that truly cares for its members would do such a lovely thing. The Christmas Care Dinner certainly made me feel loved and cared for by you. What delicious food presented with such elegance and served with most impresive etiquette! Deacons, staff, the Dieverts, Thank you for making Christmas especially meaningful to me this season.

Christ's blessings to all of you for Christmas and the coming year.

Much love in Christ,

Dear Tommy,

We did it. Together we contributed $4.8 million to CBF Offering for Global Missions this past year. By giving to the CBF Offering, yoiu have joined in God's work in the world through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. By giving, praying and serving alongside CBF field personnel among the most neglected and least evangelized, you have been fulfilling God's call, and lives have been changed.

People living with HIV/AIDS in New York City are being loved and cared for. Marginalized Roma children and teenagers in Eastern Europe are receiving the education they need for a better future.

Groups of women in India have learned how to sew and are able to support their families. Hundreds have been treated on a medical boat floating along remote rivers of Southeast Asia. And those experiencing disaster or crisis in their lives have learned that God cares and Christians care.

Thousands living in remote African villages now have access to clean drinking water, and many who have not known the love of Jesus Christ now know him personally.

All of this--God's work in the world-- is a direct result of your response to God's call. Thank you for choosing the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as your ministry partner. On behalf of those whose lives have been changed and whose work has been supported, I want to say "Thank you."

Please share our gratitude with your congregation.

I look forward to working with you this year to raise our $6.1 million Offering goal. May God richly bless your efforts to be the presence of Christ in the world.

Sincerely,

Robert N. Nash Jr.

Kay Floyd Memorial Project
Receives Letters of Thanks:

Dear congregation at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church,

I just wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for your donations of school supplies to the families associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters in our community. Even during this economic crisis, it is heartwarming to see organizations and/or civic groups find the resources to help those in need.

Because of your support, a single parent of 4 had one less thing to worry about as she prepared her children for another school year. Your continued generous support is making a difference in the life of a child and for that I want to say "thank-you."

If our local office can ever be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. THANK YOU!

May God Bless You,

Melinda Weather

Dear Community Friends,

Our Families First Family Resource Center sincerely thanks you for your generous donation in memory of Kay Floyd. We are honored and humbled by this contribution. The gift cards provide us with the opportunity to meet the needs of the many children and families we serve, especially those needs that often arise unexpectedly.

As we prepare our children to be better students and better citizens, barriers continually surface for many of our children and their families. In these difficult financial times, it becomes especially challenging for us to help remove some of these barriers. However, your very generous donation will certainly help us to do just that. Thank you for honoring Kay by donating funds to benefit causes to which she was so deeply committed.

Sincerely,

Cliff Dunne, Director

LABC Preschool would like to thank the Kay Floyd Memorial for the generous donation and also the Sunday School Classes who gave much needed supplies for the preschool. These donations allow us to spend our money on curriculum activities for the children to enhance our program. It is a privilege to be part of such a great church and feel so much love and support.

LABC Folks,

Tom and I were so touched by the many cards, visits and prayers for my Mom, Mabel Wells during her recent illness and death. We will miss her but you have made our burden lighter.

In Christian Love,
Peggy Ellis

Thank you to all at LABC for cards, and visits during my surgery and recovery.

Dear LABC Church Family,

Thank you for all the prayers, cards, visits, food, and flowers while I was in the hospital, McDowell Place and home. It made me feel loved knowing you all were thinking of me.

Prayers have been answered. I am now able to be up and around my home. Hope I can be back in church soon.

God Bless all of you,

Jean Donovan

Dear Church Family

The beautiful reception and outpouring of affection and appreciation were overwhelming to me! Leaving LABC is harder than I can even say, but I certainly know how very fortunate I am to have been in your fellowship. I truly appreciate receiving the gorgeous painting--it will have a special place in my heart...and on my wall!

Thank you. Thank you for everything! I love you and miss you. LABC will always be a church home for me.

In Christ,
Debbie Baker Harman

Kenneth and Pauline Wall wish to express their appreciation for the cards and Gideon Bibles. Thanks to those of our LABC family who attended the visitation and funeral of her twin sister, Charlen W. Swope.

Dear Friends of Sunrise:

Your in-kind gift of dinner with chicken, green beans, rolls, and dessert to Sunrise Children's Service-Woodlawn Center has been received. This gift is extremely important to our ministry.

It takes all of us to work together in different ways to make this ministry work. Your gift helps us create a life of hope for the abused and neglected children in our care.

Please share our ministry with others as you continue to pray for us. Also, we would invite you to visit our website at http://www.sunrise.org/ to find out more about our ministry and other ways you can help.

Sincerely,
William K. Smithwick

Dear LABC,

Thank you for your continued partnership with the Nada Mission in Powell County! Our continued partnership during the summer of 2009 will be a wonderful success because of communities like yours. We are excited to work alongside Paula Settle and Emilee Causey as they relate to and lead alongside the people of Nada.

Your contribution is a tremendous blessing. It is because of the gift of service and hospitality from churches like Lexington Avenue Baptist Church that Kentucky Baptist Fellowship is able to sustain our partnership in Nada. How wonderful it is when God's people work together!

On behalf of Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, please accept our heartfelt "Thank you." In joining with many other churches, organizations and individuals, you are helping our brothers and sisters of Nada understand what it means to the presence of Christ.

Grace and peace,
Joshua Speight
Associate Coordinator for Missions, Kentucky Baptist Fellowship

Dear Lexington Avenue Baptist Church,

Thank you. These two words are typically the first in a long series of words we are taught as a child in order to learn our manners. We learn that it is polite to acknowledge the receipt of a gift and the proper words to express our gratitude are to simply say thank you.

As a parent to a four-year-old, I understand the need to remind someone to say thank you to another when something nice has been done. I am reminded of this truth today as I write this letter to you, our Kentucky Baptist Fellowship partners, who financially have supported us in the past month.

Thank you! Without your contribution and commitment to our partnership, we could not be the presence of Christ we know we are called to be in the world. With your gift we are able to serve with so many wonderful and unique partnership such as:

- McCreary County - Members of Mallard Point (Georgetown) and Trinity (Raleigh, NC) assisted Hills and Hollers Ministries.

- Louisville - The KBF cluster gathered to celebrate our Morocco partnership and hear from Karen Thomas Smith.

- Danville - Youth from Lexington Ave. Baptist Church and Nada traveled to spend a day at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom and a day of service with Wayside Christian Mission and the Karen people in the Louisville area.

-Nada - Youth from that community traveled to North Carolina for a reverse mission trip sponsored by Madisonville Baptist.

- Georgetown & Louisville - Welcoming new ministers like Alan Redditt (paster, Georgetown Baptist) and Emily Hull (Minister to Young Adults, Highland Baptist) to Kentucky through the gift of lunch and dialogue.

- Covington - Meeting with leadership at Latonia Baptist as they prepare for their pastoral transition.

- Houston - Attending the annual CBF General Assembly and providing a place for KBF people to share their fellowship story with others during the state breakout.

These highlights are just some of the many ways we partnered together to be the presence of Christ in and around Kentucky in July. Thank you for helping us to support these ministries.

We are in prayer for you and our partners who share our commitment to the great commission of Jesus Christ. And we cannot say it to you enough - thank you.

Grace and peace,
Joshua Speight
