Greetings From the Pastor

A church's history can be recorded and traced through the years.  Her accomplishments can be celebrated.  Her struggles can be interpreted.  Yet, more importantly, a church's history is understood best in the lives of people whose journey is weaved into the journey of the church.  We gather to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.  We celebrate not a name or a building.  We celebrate people who have made Lexington Avenue Baptist Church who she is today.

We celebrate the hopes, the dreams, the faith of people who for seventy-five years have journeyed with God.  It is appropriate that one of the stories most often told of our church's early beginning is the walk the people made from the courthouse to this place.  In a spiritual sense we continue that same walk as we journey with God to be the people we were created to be.

I am grateful for our heritage and our hope.  I look forward with great anticipation to our continuing walk with Almighty God.  Isaac Watts years ago penned the sentiment of today's celebration:

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home!

Thank you for being with us today as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church!  May we together give thanks to God for his goodness and his grace!!

Grace and Peace,

S. Thomas Valentine, Ph.D.
