Advent Devotionals: Wednesday, December 3

Allene Kirkland*

Wednesday, First Week of Advent
December 3, 2014

We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28

I believe that Angels walk among us (humans with a mission to help others).  On more occasions than I can count I have been helped and kept safe by Angels.  I call them  Guardian Angels.

Recently I was scheduled for X-Rays  that could have been a serious condition.  Upon checking into our local hospital (O.P. waiting room) only two people were present (never have I seen it empty), myself and a beautiful young lady.  We sat opposite each other and smiled a greeting.  Shortly, she moved across and sat next to me and we had a short general conversation.  As I was called to X-Ray she softly said, “It was nice meeting you – everything will be fine.”

Prayer:  God is always present, we only need to be open to receive and in return share it with others.  The song, When nothing else could help, Love lifted me.  (words by James Rowe).

*Editor's Note:  The year 2014 marks the eleventh year that the Joy class has sponsored the Advent Devotional Book.  Allene wrote the above devotional for our first book, 2004.  Allene  died this past year and I thought it fitting to include her devotional in this year’s Advent book. --Evelyn Crooke, Teacher
