Friday, Second Week of Advent: Peace
December 12, 2014
Therefore since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Romans 5:1
It was Wednesday night, April 3, 1974. I was at prayer meeting, which was my usual custom, when a tornado swept through Danville. To be honest, I am afraid of any spring storm; but a tornado! I was terrified.
Trembling with fear I remembered that my 86-year-old landlady was at home alone. My better judgment told me I should go see about her. I hesitated – stay here where it’s safe, I thought. However, my final decision was to brave the bad weather and go see about my landlady. To my surprise, when I got there I found her sitting in the den reading.
“How can you be so calm?” I asked. Her reply, “I’m trusting God to take care of me.”
I learned an important lesson that night. Peace will come to those who trust God in the midst of a tornado and in the storms of life.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the peace that passeth all understanding. Amen.
