The First Day of Christmas: Love
Wednesday: December 26. 2012
1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
There is a story about a 4 year old sister who had a brand new baby brother. One day while he was in the nursery, she asked her Mom and Dad if it would be all right if she went into the baby's room by herself. Her parents gave her permission, knowing there was a baby monitor there. The sister began talking to her brother, "Tell me what God looks like… I'm starting to forget."
Jesus came to us as a brand new baby boy, fresh from God. It was no accident that God sent His love in this package. Babies are helpless and in great need of love. Even if all their physical needs are met, if love is withheld, they cannot survive for very long. But innocent babies inspire us to love. There is nothing like the newness and freshness of a baby. Babies fill us with new hope and new love. Through Jesus, God sent his love again. It began with the baby and continued on into the adulthood of Jesus. Over and over, He reached out to the forgotten, the ignored, and the unloved. Everyone mattered. No one is ever excluded from God's love. Love unites us with God.
God has been sending his love from the beginning of creation, but somehow we keep 'forgetting' and have to be reminded. Advent is one of those perfect times to remember.
