Light the Candle of Hope
“We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.” Psalm 33:20
Hope. Regardless of our age, it’s a word that is used frequently throughout our daily lives. Children wish for their favorite foods, being picked first on a team, and staying up later than their bedtimes. As adults, most of us have hoped for superficial things like a favorite sports team’s win, a short line at the grocery store, and material things. The way we typically use the word hope is just wishful thinking.
Hope is not wishful thinking when pertaining to God. Forgiveness, heaven, and eternal life… we do not have to “hope” for these things; they are guaranteed.
God does not ask much of us yet he provides us with so many things. Through our faith in God our “hopes” shall be answered. We must be obedient to him and place our trust in his hands.
Reflect on some of the lyrics to the song:
My Hope is You by Third Day:
To you, O Lord, I lift my soul
In you, O God, I place my trust
Do not let me be put to shame
Nor let my enemies triumph over me
My hope is you
Show me your ways
Guide me in Truth
In all my days
My hope is you
I am, O Lord, filled with your love
You are, O God, my salvation
Guard my life and rescue me
As we prepare for the upcoming hustle and bustle of the holiday season, let us keep the true meaning of Christmas in the forefront of our minds. Be filled with His love.
