Introduction

Dr. Tommy Valentine

In the 1800’s John Neale translated the words that would become the hymn we now know as
“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”  One verse contains these words:

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

The season of Advent is filled with many emotions as expressed in the words of this hymn.  All
of them are connected to the hope, peace, joy and love that fill our lives as we anticipate Christ’s return.

To experience this season fully we allow ourselves time daily to spend with God in reflection and prayer.  The devotions contained in the pages that follow will guide you through your journey of Advent.

Once again, as has been our tradition now for several years, Evelyn Crooke has gathered writings from our church family, young and old, to enhance our Advent experience.  May these words fill your life and your journey with the hope, peace, joy and love of Christ,

Blessings,
Tommy
