Second Week of Advent: Peace
Saturday, December 10, 2011

And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from the Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts – deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds – (in that peaceful state) to which (as members of Christ’s) one body you were also called (to live).  And be thankful, appreciative, giving praise to God always. Colossians 3:15 (The Amplified Version)

My computer desktop screen at home is a beautiful scene of aqua ocean water, a mini island with three palm trees, a sailboat in the distance and a blue sky with white fluffy clouds.  It looks so peaceful.  I could stare at it forever.  It does feel good to be in a state of peace, doesn’t it?  Wish I could just stay there.  Of course, life doesn’t always present itself that way.

Second Week of Advent:  Peace
Friday, December 9, 2011

Peace is something we may struggle to find as we enter the Advent season.  With gifts to buy, parties to plan, and meals to cook, it becomes difficult to slow down and find peace.  However, one scripture that allows me to reflect on the meaning of peace during this time comes from Isaiah 9:6 which reads, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  We find such powerful names for our Savior in this verse, although it’s the last name that stands out to me during this season.

Second Week of Advent: Peace
Thursday, December 8, 2011

As we move closer to the highly anticipated day of Christmas, everyone begins to get a little bit of the Christmas spirit.  Between decorating the house, buying presents for everyone and all of the other holiday festivities, it is not often that we are able to sit down and truly appreciate the real meaning of Christmas.

“Peace Be With You”

Christmas is a very busy time, perhaps even the busiest time of year.  In addition to our regular busy lives, we try to add in Christmas shopping, decorating, church services, parties with family and friends, sending cards, and so on.  I confess that most years I get so involved with the “busy-ness” of Christmas that I tend to ignore the true “business” of Christmas.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering

Light the Candle of Peace

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ for you.  I Thessalonians 5:16-18  NRSV

Pray?

Pray without ceasing?

What reminds us to pray without ceasing?
