Second Week of Advent: Peace
Thursday, December 8, 2011
As we move closer to the highly anticipated day of Christmas, everyone begins to get a little bit of the Christmas spirit. Between decorating the house, buying presents for everyone and all of the other holiday festivities, it is not often that we are able to sit down and truly appreciate the real meaning of Christmas.
In Isaiah 9:6 it says, “And he will be called Wonderful Counsel, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” These are all very powerful words for someone to be recognized as, but this is the Son of God. The one that stands out most to me is Prince of Peace. In the world we live in today, peace is something that we all desire, but rarely take the time to appreciate it. God is able to provide a peace for us that we cannot find anywhere else. Through our busy daily lives, especially during this time of year, we must take time to recognize and appreciate the peace that God brings to our lives. Whether it be spending time with family and friends or realizing the many gifts God continues to provide for us, we are all truly blessed and should take the time to thank God for looking over us.
Prayer: Dear God, remind us to take time to rest in the peace that you provide for us this holiday season. Thank you for sending your son, the prince of peace. Amen.
